WIIN Langkloof Rural Development
- WIIN was approached by the Chairperson of the Langkloof Association, to visit Langkloof in Mpumalanga province, in order to assess the plight of impoverished women and children, living in communities in the Langkloof area, in the heartland of the Ndebele people
- Francesca Fondse, the WIIN Founder and National Champion for Women visited the area initially on the 25 January 2019, ongoing
- The village of Langkloof is home to 83 orphans who are in great need, with no proper facilities, and donations towards this project is most welcome!
- Most women and inhabitants are unemployed, poverty rife and semi-illiterate
- WIIN assessed the climatic conditions re average rainfall, temperatures, soil structures, vegetation etc. to determine feasibilities
- With this information and the assessment of empowerment possibilities, it became clear that the surrounding area would support agro, vertical-fresh tunnels, aquaponics, backpacker’s tourism, and further SMME related developments
- The WIIN Training Division will create training programmes for this community, aligned with the findings
- WIIN empower the women of the village to be economically active, and provide means for the children and themselves, for now and the future
Langkloof Today
- 83 Orphans live in very poor circumstances
- Unemployment is rife
- Healthy food is scarce
- There is no trade
- There is no decent social cohesion
- HIV is the cause of this many orphans
- There is too little knowledge about sustainable agro
